Musical Sounds

 Music
Is an organized sound which has same pattern.
                                                OR
Is the combination of sounds of regular frequencies.
OR
Is the combination of sounds of constantly varying pitch
OR
Is the combination of sounds of irregular frequency.

Factors influencing musical sounds
the musical sound produced by different musical instruments depends on four parameters:-
i)        Pitch (frequency)
ii)       Intensity
iii)     Loudness
iv)     Quality (Timbre)

PITCH OF SOUND
Is a property of sound according to which sounds can be ordered on a scale from high to low. Pitch is determined by the frequency of the sound wave. The higher the frequency, the higher the pitch of the sound produced.

INTENSITY OF SOUND
Is the rate of flow of energy per unit area perpendicular to the direction of the wave.
The intensity of sound depends on:-
i)        Density of medium (e.g. air)
ii)       Frequency of sound waves
iii)     Amplitude of sound waves

LOUDNESS OF SOUND
Is the intensity of the sound as perceived by the human ear.
Loudness of sound depends on the amplitude of the sound wave. The large the amplitude the louder the sound

QUALITY (TIMBRE) OF SOUND
Is the tone quality of the sound produced by an instrument.

Quality of sound depends on its fundamental frequency and the overtones.
