Exercises - Form IV - WAVES - ACTIVITY 2

ACTIVITY 2
1.       Briefly explain what happens to speed wavelength and amplitude of the waves in each of the following cases.
a)       When waves encounter a boundary which cannot pass.
b)      When waves encounter a boundary which can pass, meet with less density Medium.
c)       When waves encounter a boundary which can pass, meet with high dense Medium.

2.       Briefly explain what happens to the speed; wavelength and frequency of the waves when
a)       Travels from Deep water to shallow water
b)      Travel from shallow water to deep water
c)       Light waves travels from high to less dense medium.

3.       A light wave is refracted into an optically less medium. What changes will occur in:
i)        The frequency?
ii)       The speed?
iii)     The wavelength?

4.       (a) What do you understand by the following terms
i)        Interference
ii)       Constructive interference
iii)     Destruction interference
  (b) State the conditions for occurrence of each of terms defined in (a) above.

5.       (a)Define and state the two (2) applications of diffractions.
(b) State the conditions for the diffraction to be at the greatest level.

6.       Explain why a duck remains floating at the same place as a waves passes by the water in a lake?
